DISCRETIONARY GRANT DEFINITION

Discretionary grant funds, into which 20% of FoodBev’s levies go, together with unclaimed mandatory grants from the previous year, are available to fund initiatives aligned with developing scarce skills for the sector and the country. The types of projects are generally guided by the sector’s skills priorities and should be aligned with the SETA’s strategic objectives. Ultimately, it should support the objectives of the NSDS and the national socio-economic imperatives.

DEFINITION

The SME Support Grant represents one of the more versatile training products available from FoodBev SETA.  As opposed to other discretionary grants, the SME Support grant of R30 000 can be claimed back against virtually any training initiative. An SME is a company that employs less than 50 employees, and can be either levy paying, non-levy paying or a BEE company. A pre-approval of the grant is required.
