DISCRETIONARY GRANT DEFINITION Discretionary grant funds, into which 20% of FoodBev’s levies go, together with unclaimed mandatory grants from the previous year, are available to fund initiatives aligned with developing scarce skills for the sector and the country. The types of projects are generally guided by the sector’s skills priorities and should be aligned with the SETA’s strategic objectives. Ultimately, it should support the objectives of the NSDS and the national socio-economic imperatives. DEFINITION South Africa’s past years has placed many difficulties on the modern generation of society which businesses are faced with today, not least discrimination which many people were denied access to basic and formal school. ABET is a training invention product and solution designed to address the gap mentioned above. It allows companies to assist staff members in giving staff an opportunity to learn basic numeracy and literacy as part of a workplace- based development.
The FoodBev SETA ABET offering takes shape in two mechanisms: - An ABET Assessment grant, whereby an organization receives R75 for an assessment per learning area (so a maximum potential of R150)
- An ABET Training grant, whereby an organization receives R2000 per learning area per level for training conducted with employees in ABET (maximum potential over the life-cycle of ABET = R16 000)
